The memories have not faded despite the passing of eighteen years. When she died, in 1995, Bethany Amber was just sixteen months old. I am not going to recount the events of that terrible night and morning of 3rd/4th March all those years ago as I relive them often enough and dreadfully enough in my mind as it is. Around this time of year and certainly come the anniversary of her death, I relive that time in vivid detail.

The tragedy of someone so young dying continues long after they have been laid to rest. Memories of them are filled with a sadness and a sense of wrong ? she should have been twenty years old later this year, living a vibrant life filled with friends and full of the zest and energy that teens and early twenties bring.

But if we only dwell on the tragedy of the life they have been robbed of, we do them a small disservice too as we are not remembering them cleanly. When an elderly person dies there is none of that muddied quality: we recall experiences with . . .
