Can one life really make a difference?Born without her left hip and leg, Michele Perry is no stranger to seeming impossibilities. So when she arrived in war-torn Southern Sudan--with little more than her faith in god's promises--she did what everyone told her was crazy: she opened a home for orphaned children in the middle of guerilla warfare territory and has now become "mama" to over one hundred little lives. With a deft pen, she recounts unforgettable stories of life in the bush, stories that capture the reader with the stark realities of living in a war zone--and the power of God's love to transform them. Her own story is just as compelling as the ministry she is living. From working in the slums of India to finding her home in war-ravaged Africa, Michele's life has been a journey deeper into the supernatural power of God.Readers will be swept up in one woman's poignant . . .

IT'S BEEN SAID that one mother can raise five children, but five children cannot take care of one mother. More often that not, only one of those five children would be willing to step into the role of a caregiver. Raising children, (unless you are dealing with special needs) is progressive. The role of a caregiver typically involves someone that is regressive. That can be tough, trying your best to care for someone you love, while witnessing first hand their deterioration. My journey in becoming a caregiver began with my mother-in-law. It was a uniquely different role from anyting else I have experienced in my life thus far. It became a journey of self discovery at times.

The wisdom and understanding I gained towards the end of my journey as a caregiver, I wished I had starting out. Life rarely works that way.

The Alzheimer's Journey is a handbook on Alzheimer's that provides caregiving resources, information, help and support for caregivers dealing with Dementia.
"A world without Alzheimer's"
While that is my dream, I am reminded daily of the challenges and struggles persons with dementia, spouses, families, friends, physicians, and professional caregivers face throughout the dementia journey. This is a journey, often spanning many years. While on this journey, there are periods of "smooth sailing," "fast moving currents," "rough waters," and "turbulent seas." But in the midst of the more difficult times, you will know that smooth sailing will return. Having lost both parents to Alzheimer's disease over a thirty year period and having continued to work with families of persons with dementia an additional twenty years, I have formulated some basic concepts and approaches that have proven effective in managing the ups and downs of this journey. This discussion articulates those concepts.

This is the story of a woman who believed she was not good enough but came to understand that she was more than she ever thought she could be. Wrapped in her four girl friends love, Karen moves from everyday alcoholic-depression into spiritual sobriety. Eventually calling her the whoo-whoo chick, teasing her about ‘talking to dead people’, they move through 20 years together, creating the lives they yearn to live.

The story, peppered with humour throughout, starts on one of their girls’ weekends away, then moves backwards through time into men, sex and crazy days as they meet one another. After crashing her car one drunken night, Karen, at the tender age of 25, attends Alcoholics Anonymous for the first time. Soon after she meets the man she will marry, believing him when he says ‘but you’re such a strong woman’, her pattern of drinking and depression starts again. Marrying on the day that Chris Hani is brutally murdered, a milestone in SA political history, she is unaware of . . .

A mother’s journey raising a child with allergies. A mother who encountered many forks in the road, but doesn’t give up. Motivation from seeing his disappointment day in and day out. Heartache with every reaction. Elliott, the boy in the book, has multiple food allergies, seasonal allergies and environmental allergies. Moments of frustration, suffering and confusion. A story about a mother’s desire to keep her son safe, even if advocating for her son means the loss of her teaching position.
"I can't even begin to imagine all the heartache and worry this mother has been through! I mean, we all worry about our kids, but she has a real reason to be scared each and every day. I like that the book has pictures - it really helps to see the innocent little boy and shows all the reactions described aren't being exaggerated. I like that Michele Schroeder is real. She is very good at describing her thoughts about each event as it happened and believe it or not, her humor helps the reader . . .
