PREFACE As life nears its end with me, I find myself meditating more and more upon the mystery of its nature and origin, yet without the least hope that I can find out the ways of the Eternal in this or in any other world. In these studies I fancy I am about as far from mastering the mystery as the ant which I saw this morning industriously exploring a small section of the garden walk is from getting a clear idea of the geography of the North American Continent. But the ant was occupied and was apparently happy, and she must have learned something about a small fraction of that part of the earth's surface.I have passed many pleasant summer days in my hay-barn study, or under the apple trees, exploring these questions, and though I have not solved them, I am satisfied with the clearer view I have given myself of the mystery that envelops them. I have set down in these pages all the thoughts that have come to me on this subject. . . .

Craniosacral therapy is based on the belief that functions of the human system are maintained and integrated by a biodynamic force known as 'primary respiration,' or the breath of life. Found in the brain, spinal cord, and bodily fluids, this rhythmic pulse promotes healing and health. Written for students and practitioners but accessible to lay readers, this text presents the fundamental concepts and techniques of a method that redirects the cerebrospinal fluid to areas of imbalance, thus enhancing overall health. Volume One covers both the history and conceptual ideas fundamental to Craniosacral Biodynamics, as well as the more complex structural and tissue relationships.

The struggle between Christianity and evolution at first seems to boil down to the choice: creation or evolution. NeoDarwinism is the evolutionary theory of choice today, with natural selection acting on random variations in the genomes of living things to create the brains and body plans of all of life. The word "Neo-Darwinism" has become almost synonymous with the word "evolution." Theistic evolution accepts Neo-Darwinism as God’s method of creation. Almost half of Christians in the US prefer Creationism or Intelligent Design, where God from the top down and the outside in fashions living things. In Neo-Darwinism life is clay, natural selection the potter; in Creationism and Intelligent Design, life is clay and God is the potter. The author is dissatisfied with all these choices.

Christianity, Evolution and the Breath of Life is a 21st Century view that addresses the question of what is life and weighs the evidence that life is not merely material. The author examines the . . .

Breathing is not something that we ever need to do – we need only allow it to happen inside us. The breath is never ‘my breath’ – it does not belong to us. It is in some way greater than us, and it brings us life. This is a conviction that has slowly grown on the author through almost forty years of practising body prayer and meditation. Breathing meditation brings diverse benefits. It will help you to relax and to sleep better. It will also help you cope better with stress and tiredness. Through it you will learn to pray in more holistic ways; you will move towards your spiritual centre and become more open to God’s call to friendship and intimacy. As well as offering a series of exercises in deepening your skills in breathing, this book covers the constructive use of breathing in movement, healing, stillness and general well being.

Much of the time, our bodies carry out the process of respiration without our conscious involvement. But when you stop to really ponder the miraculous nature of breathing, as author John Burroughs does at length in The Breath of Life, this seemingly automatic act takes on greater meaning and significance. This volume is recommended for anatomy buffs, those with an appreciation for natural philosophy, and readers who are interested in exploring the benefits of deep-breathing techniques.
